The Region of Waterloo is implementing a hybrid Light Rail Transit (LRT)/bus transit (BRT) system called ION. The system will provide Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo with a dedicated north-south rapid transit line.
Scheduled for completion in 2017, stage 1 of construction includes:
- An LRT from Conestoga Mall in Waterloo to Fairview Mall in Kitchener
- A dedicated BRT lane from Fairview Mall to Ainslie Terminal in Cambridge
Stage 2 proposes to convert the BRT line into a full LRT service Line.
